Linda Haynes Payne Aaron

LINDA HAYNES PAYNE AARON, 84 of Athens, Georgia passed away on April 11, 2024 at her home.

She was born on January 20, 1940, to Charles Edmond and Letha Elnora Haynes Payne in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1942, the family returned to Elberton, Georgia where her father owned and Payne Hardware and mother worked for the City of Elberton for many years.

She graduated from Elberton High School and then attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.  Then worked for the American Red Cross on military installations until 1969.

She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Elberton, Vanna United Methodist Church (Vanna, Georgia), and the First Untied Methodist Church in Athens, Georgia.   She was instrumental in programs with the First united Methodist Women for many years.

Linda worked at the Hargrett Library at the University of Georgia as a conservationist/archivist until retiring. She continued her work assisting county governments and individuals in the process of cataloguing their historical resources. Additionally, she was involved with many county historical societies and their needs to preserve history.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. A talented artist, she painted many beautiful watercolor paintings throughout her life.

Linda was predeceased by both her parents and husband William Hill Aaron. She is survived by her daughter Ericka Aaron Thomas (John).  

A private service was held at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, Georgia at the family grave.
