Suspect identified in possible murder-suicide in Gwinnett County

Gwinnett County authorities have released the name of the suspect in an alleged Wednesday morning murder-suicide at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker.

Jose Plasencia, 56, of Norcross,  is believed to have killed three children and himself after telling their mother he would take them to get something to eat while she waited at an area hospital with another child who was being treated for unrelated injuries. 

Plasencia is not the father of the three victims in this case. 

Update as of 3:16 p.m. Wednesday:

Gwinnett County authorities released the identities of the three children found dead Wednesday morning at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker.

Gwinnett County Police officials said the victims were identified as Arianny Rodriguez, 13, Carlos Rodriguez, 9 and Chadal Rodriguez, 11 all of Atlanta. 

The children's mother was at a local hospital with another child who was being treated for an unrelated injury.

The mother and the suspect are the parents of the child who was at the hospital. They were not in a relationship at the time of the shooting. 

Police officials said the suspect is not the father of the victims.

He met with the mother and four children at the hospital. 

After some time, the mother agreed to let the three children go with the suspect to grab a bite to eat while she remained at the hospital,” officials said in a press release. 

The suspect’s name will be released once the next of kin is notified.

Gwinnett County Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide case from overnight involving one adult and three children.

A press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department say officers were called to an area check at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker at around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday to discover a vehicle along a pedestrian trail. Further investigation led to the discovery of an adult driver and three juvenile children-two girls and one boy-deceased inside the vehicle. The children appeared to be of elementary and middle school-age.

Gwinnett detectives were continuing their investigation through the early morning to find more leads to the causes for deaths, while they are handling their initial investigation as a possible murder-suicide.   

Detectives from the Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are processing the scene, as of last update.

The names of the deceased are being withheld until next-of-kin notification can be made.
