Kim Denise Mincey

Obituary Date: Thursday, April 18, 2024

Kim Denise Mincey of Buford, Georgia, passed away on April 18, 2024 following a brief illness.  She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Jason; their daughters, Margaret and Mackenzie Mincey of Buford; her brother, Richard Mathis, Jr. of Cartersville, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Kim was preceded in death by her father, Richard Mathis, Sr.; her mother, Barbara Ann Mathis; and her beloved grandmother, Kate “Mimi” Carver.

Kim was born April 27, 1963 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.  She was raised in Austell, spending her childhood summers either at her grandmother’s house or getting her money’s worth out of her season pass to Six Flags Over Georgia.  She stayed in contact regularly with many of her childhood friends, especially her fellow Class of 1981 graduates of South Cobb High School.  While she spent virtually her whole life in Atlanta’s suburbs, Kim always saw herself as a country girl, largely due to her grandmother’s influence.  Some of the things she loved, in no particular order: being out in the sun, cornbread and buttermilk, tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches, Coca-Cola, Rod Stewart, attending K-pop concerts with her daughters, and watching true crime documentaries.

But her first and second loves were God and her family.  Kim was a member of Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church, and she had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus.  She loved her husband and daughters more than anything else in the world.  She was a “Mama Bear” in the truest sense, ready to go to any length to protect and to defend her girls – even though her over-protectiveness could frustrate them at times.  She was the best wife and mother that her family could have ever dreamed of having.  Our hearts are broken as we try to grasp the fact that she is gone, but we rejoice that she is now in the presence of the Lord, reunited with so many loved ones and friends who preceded her in death.  We know that we will see her again one day.

A celebration of life service will be held at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 28.  The family requests that those who wish to remember Kim with a gift do so by making a donation to Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church – General Budget Fund.  Donate online at https://hmumc.org/give, or mail a check to:
